HANDS HELD

B. D. Uniyal (Parvatiya) Charitable Trust has been assisting National Association for the Blind since 2017. It has provided support for the education of one of our students, Babita, from Uttarakhand, whose father went missing after the flash flood in Uttarakhand in 2013. Babita was selected for B. D. Uniyal Merit-cum-Means scholarship for two years. The Trust contributed Rs. 75,000/- per year towards Babita's school fees, purchase of books and uniform.

Since then, the Trust has been contributing to our organization regularly which has encouraged and motivated us in doing our work with assistance.

Now during the pandemic, our organization has been facing a financial crisis as we did not get sponsors for many of our projects. Our organization is dependent on general donations, which we have not been getting since the onset of pandemic. We are in need of support for running our organization and have been on the lookout for supporters. The Trust donated Rs. 1,00,000/- to us in March 2021.

We are extremely grateful to the Trust for the continued support to our organization.

- Shantha Rangarajan, Principal, National Association for the Blind

I came to know about the B.D. Uniyal (Parvatiya) Charitable Trust through my father, who was associated with the trust as long back as his post -graduation days. He was also a recipient of the scholarship because of his keen interest in literature those days. He then once again approached the Trust, requesting them to provide me with the scholarship. Since then, I have known the Chairperson, Seema ma'am, who has been my guiding mentor.

The Trust has helped me a lot during my graduation by providing me scholarship for three years. As I was a design student, there was a lot of expenditure in art, craft, and study material along with the annual fees. The financial assistance provided by the Trust helped me a lot in meeting those expenditures. It also motivated me to do better each time, as the Trust believed in my ability. I will forever be very grateful to the trust.

I have been in constant touch with Seema ma'am through all these years. She has been my main connection with the Trust. I would be very honoured if I can be associated with Trust in future in any form, as I cannot thank them enough for what they have provided me with. Whatever I am today in my career, I would give huge credit to the Trust.

My association with the B.D. Uniyal (Parvatiya) Charitable Trust begins during my first year of B.A. I was introduced to the Trust through the Chairperson, Seema ma’am via my economics teacher at school. Due to my good academic performance in school as well as the financial condition of my family, in the initial meeting itself, Seema ma’am offered complete support of the Trust in my future endeavours. The most striking memory of it was that it wasn’t merely financial support. She introduced me to her son who was in his final year at the same college (St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi). He provided me an insider view of college. Long conversations of opportunities, and things I must explore etc. It was on the one hand an ice breaking of several apprehensions that I carried about college, and on the other a sense of comfort that future life in college holds the promise of lot of opportunities.

Moving to Delhi from my home state (Kerala) was indeed a difficult task. My disability (blindness) adds an extra layer to such hurdles. However, never in my college days did I have to miss out on opportunities due to my poor financial background. The Trust ensured strong backing during my past three years.

When looking back, I feel that all my achievements in college beginning from the role of student councillor in the first year till securing admission at the University of Glasgow were the outcome of the strong foundation offered by the Trust. It is all the more important to mention that Seema ma’am during our phone calls regarding fee payments or otherwise provided the comfort of a mother more than offering the voice of charity. In brief, it was the undercurrent of belonging and the warmth of family that shaped my emotional relations with the Trust. It is this feeling that reminds me often to offer the same to many like me in the future. Thanks to the Trust for inculcating such values in me.

- Ajay R Raj, pursuing M.A. (English) at St. Stephen’s college, University of Delhi

I lost my father in 2016 due to ill health as a consequence of huge business loss. It coincided with me getting a merit M.B.B.S. seat. We were in great financial trouble when my biology lecturer, Dr. Bhawna Shastri, recommended my name to B.D Uniyal (Parvatiya) Charitable Trust. Based on my marks and financial condition, I was awarded merit-cum-means scholarship for a duration of three years. It was a great support for my education. I have topped every year of M.B.B.S. and won many quizzes! The Trust has appreciated and encouraged me each time.

My father was into a lot of social service- it is true that when we help someone, it is returned to us in unknown way. It would be wrong if I do not offer special thanks to Dr. Seema Uniyal Mishra, Chairperson of the Trust, for her kindness and support.
